1st Week in Taiwan

So I wanted to start this blog so everyone at home can see how things are in Taiwan. Things are different and I am so happy that I get to experience this with my husband Bryce. So the first week went by fast.

Day 1- The flight was awesome, we were fed quite a bit of food, not the best food, but it was nice that they took care of us. We flew on Korean Air. The flight attendants were so pretty and they looked like perfect little Chinese dolls.
They had so many movies to choose from, flights have changed a lot from when I was younger.
There was a nice blanket, a pillow, head phones and a bottle of water sitting on our seats when we came aboard.
We got to Taiwan and we got to see our apartment, all I wanted was a bed after travelling for 22 hours. So in Taiwan just about everyone has tile in their homes. And they wear slippers to keep the floors clean, I am not good at the slipper wearing yet. We don’t have a tub or anything that separates the shower from the rest of the bathroom. So when you shower everything in the bathroom gets soaked, so we put the toilet paper in a plastic bag and I put my make-up in a plastic bag as well. Cleaning the bathroom is a little easier though.

New Years Eve we decided to meet Bryce’s old mission buddy up at Taipei 101. This is kind of compared to New York City dropping the ball in Time Square. We went there not really knowing what to expect. The fireworks were awesome, beautiful! We got some video of it. When the fireworks ended a ton of people started running the opposite direction and I said to Bryce “why is everyone running” then about 20 mins later we found out why they were running.Everyone was running to the train station!Thousands of people trying to squeeze themselves on the train. I was so tired and there were no seats so  I was sleep standing on the train. We were packed in like sardines. It took us about 4 hours to get home. They said there was 800,000 people there.

When we got back to our town we got to our bikes and noticed that our bike lock was missing. We looked all around for the lock; the funny thing was that they didn’t take our bikes. I think they broke the lock and borrowed our bikes and brought them back before we returned. It was a blessing, but we still need to go buy a new lock now.
We have been here and week, we start teaching in  about a week or so. The kids here get so excited when we walk through campus, and they say " so handsome" in Chinese when they see Bryce. They all wave and say "Hi" when we walk by. We feel so much love and appreciation here. Everyone is so happy and kind.

A lot of people here in Taiwan wear face mask because of the pollution. I am getting use to that too, you can see some of the kids have mask on.

So when you walk or ride your bike around you will see lots of dogs but they are not very cute and i was thinking most of the dogs in Taiwan must look like this, I was so wrong. They have really nice dogs here, they have poodles and other really expensive small dogs. We went to a pet shop and I fell in love, I was in heaven. So cute. And the other day I saw a lady walking her dog and the pup had shoes on!! shoes on the doggy !! so cute. But yeah they take good care of their pups, clothes and all. I need to get some pictures :)
Well I have been trying all the food  I can, I want to find the food I like and stick to that while I am here. So far I enjoy the dumplings and rice. So far I don't like real Chinese food that much. But I am going to get use to it. Bryce drinks this drink that has gooey chewy balls in it and at first I liked it but now the thought of it makes me oozy. There are these carts that make food on the streets and I found one cart that sold caramelized strawberries- kind of like a candy apple but with strawberries instead! Loved it!!!

I took some pictures of the campus. It is cloudy and rainy but still very pretty and green. I also took pictures of our street corner of where we live.
